In Fragments

Nosizwe is a Norway-born South-African electro-soul singer. She debuted with a full length album, In Fragments, in 2016. And she is able to capture spectacular jazzy sounds that are so endearing and wholly beautiful.

In Fragments boasts of collaborations from Georgia Anne Muldrow, Son Of Light, Guilty Simpson, Rene, Naima Mcclean, Kinny and Denmark Vessey. For a beginning body of work, the 13 track album oozes heritage and sophistication, even in harsher funkier tracks like The Best Drug.

The enigmatic album opener Songs From Nosizwe sets the pace into her future sounding, timeless and voodoo-istic tribute to music. She laces the track with her seemingly sweet and subtle vocals. The album goes on to peak at track no. 3 with Hey Ya where she displays some very sultry and captivating riffs, showcasing she is anything but soft.

A subdued piano sampled Lessons transitions into Nordic Lights with rapper Son Of Light, and it is here where she starts to flex her vocal capabilities. Her voice grows and pitches at towering heights. Her experimentation with alternative RnB and a very dynamic range of vocals proves she is not one to be confined in a box.

As the title suggests, the neo-soul sounding talent weaves different pieces/fragments of her art together through groovy funk, from skit pieces, spoken word, acapella, jazzy symphonies to politically woke rap as witnessed in Breathe. Her powerful vocals and lush arrangements demand replay value.

It’s the unconventional amendable nature of her individualized music that keeps you tuned into Nosizwe’s voice offering that intimate connection for the entirety of In Fragments.
