Justify My Thug

I can’t be the only one that feels creeped out trying to along to Uzi’s XO Tour’s ‘Push me to the edge All my friends are dead’. Like he’s really trying to make me turn up to death? Nicca what?! Take a page about subtlety from B.I.G’s Everyday Struggle; I don’t wanna live no more Sometimes I hear death knocking at my front door, I’m living every day like,  a hustle. For one, I don’t feel like slitting my wrists..

Not to mean that all rap has to be deep in meaning to evoke emotions. I will turn up to B.I.G’s Big Poppa and Pac’s Changes in equal measure. But all these Lil Uzis, Lil Pumps and Lil Yatchys make me nostalgic quick. I don’t know how they stay sneaking back in my playlist. Now am back to cleansing my playlist and prioritizing the classic hip hop bombers. Herego Lil Kim, MC Lyte, Snoop Dogg and the whole NWA crew that pioneered this ship. Ratchet mode is activated. Automatic. You know you can’t help that cute little twerk when bumping to I got dick for days you got ass for weeks, You can do it put your ass into it. Get Your Life!

Swag and flow personifies hip hop as a genre of music. In honor of The Black Album turning 14 recently, Jay Z will always ring true to hiphop swagger. He captured this so masterfully and effortlessly throughout his discography. So much so that he has received recognition in Hollywood’s Songwriter’s Hall of Fame. This particular album(my personal fave), still stays fresh to death. Timeless. Hearing this on repeat makes you just want to gangsta up and get that dirt off your shoulder. When you experience music that transports you to a whole different realm, you know you have to credit the art. By law.

Much as there is the beat and swagger, I refuse to relent on distinct diction. I have to be able to make out what is being said if I am to thuggishly sing along. Even if it’s nasty. Especially when its nasty. 50 and Snoop’s collaboration to P.I.M.P has some of the filthiest lyrics in there. And is still getting lots of play. Timeless and Relevant. Twelve piece with a hundred hoes by my side. You fuckin’ with me you fuckin’ with a P-I-M-P.

At the cost of stones being thrown, what the fu*k does Future’s Mask Off’s line drank promethazine even mean? All that molly and lean talk just wears me out. No much difference from Desiigner. Birds of the same feather. His beats are sickening though.

Pre-Kardashian Kanye West in college will definitely make his way into my special mix. All Tea All Shade. I mean The College Dropout, Late Registration and Graduation albums. This was the height of Mr West. When he could take you to church and the club at the same damn time. Wake up Mr West!

All hail to the only white rapper that stays consistently in my playlist no matter what. Eminem. Lyrical beast. Also makes me wanna cuss out everybody.
